A Legacy Forged in Service

Matthew Currin and Vincent Martinez first forged their bond on the battlefield of Afghanistan during the initial missions of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2001/2002. Their partnership deepened when both were selected to fly the revolutionary V-22 Osprey at HMMT-204, MCAS New River. Together, as Majors in the Marine Corps, they were charged with designing the foundational training program for the V-22 platform. Their work contributed to what would become the Marine Aviation Training Transformation Program.

While they came at this mission from different directions, their paths were equally essential. Matthew brought experiential insight rooted in high-risk combat operations and training systems. Vince delivered strategic thinking, systems integration, and business acumen that would soon serve him in government and defense consulting. Together, they became change agents dedicated to one shared belief: critical knowledge should never walk out the door.

That belief sparked the formation of Convene AIR.

From Lessons Learned to Lessons Scaled

Matthew's journey was shaped by a pivotal tragedy: a helicopter crash in 2001 caused by a 12-second human error that claimed the lives of three Marines. From that point forward, he committed himself to human-centered leadership, Crew Resource Management (CRM), and institutional knowledge transfer.

After retiring from the Marine Corps, Matthew continued his service as an EMS helicopter pilot, completing over 650 missions, and as a corporate pilot for Penske Jet, supporting NASCAR teams and executives. All along the way, he saw the same pattern across sectors: people are the mission, and every lesson—every story—has value.

Vince built his career as a defense industry executive, entrepreneur, and consultant. He became a trusted advisor to C-level leaders and federal agencies, supporting enterprise-level systems integration, innovation, and training development. He brought a systems-level understanding of how to scale transformation—especially in environments where risk, accountability, and performance intersect.
